Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day to honor men and women who died while serving in the U.S military. This day is set to be on the last Monday of May. It was originally known as Decoration Day, it was originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings, and participating in parades. Cities and towns across the United States host Memorial Day parades each year incorporating military personnel and members of veterans'  organizations. Some parades take place in Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C. I'll list some ways to show respect:
  1. By visiting a Massachusetts Veterans' Cemetery and leave poppies on a grave site. Any flowers can be good but poppies have become a synonyms with Memorial Day.
  2. Explore the Vietnam Veterans memorial at Green Hill Park, 50 Skyline Drive in Worcester. It honors service men and women who gave their lives in the Vietnam War.
  3. Tour Fort Independence at Castle Island at Day Boulevard South Boston. This the oldest fortified site in North America.
  4. Check out the Veterans History Project online. http://www.loc.gov/vets/ This website has first-hand interviews with Veterans'.
  5. Fly the flag. Did you know that traditional guidelines call for the flag to be displayed in public areas only from sunrise to sunset?

Becoming Your Best

Becoming Your Best: The 12 Principles of Highly Successful Leaders.

1. Be true to character.

Character is built as it is tested, tried, and refined over time through adversity and challenges. It is having the courage to stand tall and true to others and to yourself.

"Truth can be stated in a thousand different ways, yet each one can be true."

2. Use your imagination.

Using your imagination is you will always think outside the box and have some creativity on things you do. You can you use your imagination to inspire yourself to live, because imagination is a big thing life that you can use because you're being BOLD, and standing out from everyone else which doesn't make you different it makes you unique, and being unique isn't bad. If you can imagine being anything in world, for example if you have that imagination that someday you'll be a brain surgeon you can it make it happen if you believe in yourself and not doubt your imagination because every person can have a variety of dreams and imaginations but it's themselves who can make them happen so it won't be an imagination for so long.

" Logic will get you from A to Z. Imagination will take you everywhere."

3. Apply the power of knowledge.

Knowledge is the thing that prevents us from doing any negative stuff. Knowledge is the thing that makes us do and say positive things. Without knowledge one wouldn't be able to do anything in life. In fact, knowledge is not easy at all to withhold but we have to work very hard in order to gain knowledge. Knowledge can be useless if you don't apply it in your life. The reason in which we should apply knowledge onto our regular day life is because we need it on a regular basis in order to function correctly. Knowledge will help us understand life in a didn't perspective and way we never thought of.

"It is beyond doubt that all our knowledge begins with experience."

4. Never give up.

Giving up shouldn't be an answer you should try and try until you succeed in something you want to achieve. If give up in the first try what makes you think you think that you wouldn't be able to make it? Giving up shouldn't be something you decide make it something your motivated to do, because if have to think i wont give up and you can do it but you don't have a little have faith in yourself it will be worth it.

"Never give up on what you really wan to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than the one with the facts."

5. Find peace and balance.

By finding peace it will help you see life a little different than you usually do and being balance is good as well because you'll know how to maintain your personal and school / work life separate than mixing both together. You should have an equal balance with everything you do in your life don't focus on just one thing it wont the balance equilibrium. You have to focus on multiple things and find peace in it. Like yin-yang there's a balance the good must have a bit of bad and the bad must have a little good it's just the balance in yin-yang.

"Feminism is not only for women It's something everyone can participate in, and evolve together, as the first step in the right direction. I see feminism as a tool to achieve that balance and peace."

6. Live by the Golden Rule.

There are different kinds of Golden Rule people look up to. But you always have ton follow it because it guides on the right path in your life and it helps you a lot.

"I believe in the Golden Rule. I believe in practicing it."

7.Build and maintain trust.

By building trust with a person because you can always count on them with anything and they returned the favor back to you. Building a trust with someone make you open with one another and discuss about things you might have in common and you get to know there personality and how they are towards each other. You have to sincere with others and be kind in order to build trust. By maintaining a friendship it shows how strongly you build the trust of that person. Be careful who you trust because those you thought you trusted will or can go against you.

"The foundation of a friendship is trust."

8. Quick to listen slow to wrath.

I think that this principle is about you to listen and to not get mad easily. Because once you get you can't control what you say or do which is bad because you can offend a person like that. You need to control your temper or it will control you. It it basically means is if you can't do something don't get mad and try again.

"He who's slow to anger, has great understanding."

9.Lead with vision.

I honestly, think that this means be a leader with an imagination on what you want to accomplish. Don't be someone who leads without no goals and imagination put towards the thing you want to work for. Leading with vision shows you how capable you are with doing certain things. You need to have a visual of the thing you want to be or need. Without out visual how do you know you'll get it or get where you are. Everyone uses visual with anything like a construction worker, doctor, surgeon. and a student to achieve what they want because once you visualize it you can get with hard work and dedication towards the thing you want.

"The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs."

10. Manage with a plan.

I believe this mean by managing with plan you know what your doing. By planning it you'll know what to work on with anything in mind honestly. If you work before planning out something it won't come out right at all because you need to know what your working for then you can work on your plan. Its like having a construction work build something without having a blueprint on what they need to build. You always have to know what you want because that's the main plan than you can manage in your life.

You've got to know what you want. This is central to acting on your intentions. When you know what you want, you realize that all there is left then is time management. You'll manage your time to achieve your goals because you clearly know what you're trying to achieve in your life."

11. Do what matters the most.

The thing that matters more is your priority. What also matters the most is how you picture yourself.

12. Be accountable.

I think this be understand everything like peoples perspectives and yours. You have to understand anything at any situation . Being accountable will help you in life through everything you go through.

Ten Tips by Barbra A. Lewis

Ten Tips to being more truthful
By; Barbra A. Lewis

1. Make a commitment to tell the truth.

Everyone should always tel the truth because it's a way of showing people that your honest, even if it's not a good truth but it's better than a lie. Committing yourself to tell the truth, is good because your seeking for good habits in life and showing people that lying won't help you in life. You may say lie then cover it with more lies which makes you forget what the first lie was, but being truthful and honest is better because the person will know that your intentions are good not bad because you lied.

"Telling the truth and making someone cry is better than telling a lie and making some smile."

2. Tell someone about your commitment.

Telling someone your commitment is the best thing you can possibly do, why? Because your telling others that you will commit to the promise you have made because you wanna show them you won't break it which is good. Cause once you commit to something like for example telling the truth they'll see your progress on how honest your being and up front and truthful your are to them and others and it's always good involve others in your commitment.

"When you're surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment around a common purpose, anything is possible."

3. Think before you give a dishonest answer, explanation, sarcasm, or reason.

Before giving someone any dishonest answer, explanation, sarcasm, or reason think about it before you did because the way you say or do it can show people how rude you are because of the way you answer. And answering dishonest is the exact same thing as being untruthful to a person and the more you do it the progressively it gets worse and worse and you don't know what to say anymore.

"Dishonesty of any kind will create a blemish."

4. Be careful of when and how you use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony.

Using irony, sarcasm, or exaggeration at the wrong time is bad. Because if you're trying to be truthful to a person and you use sarcasm what makes you think they'll believe you if you meant it as a "joke" no.  You also have to be careful when you say it and how your saying it. A lot of people may confuse your sarcasm for you talking the way you do.

"Avoid sarcasm. Don't insist on the last word."

5. Be careful not to twist the truth or leave out a part of it.

Being careful on not twisting the truth or leaving a part of it out means don't mix a truth with a lie because it will lead to a big twist in your life because you will become dishonest. And leaving a bit of truth out isn't okay either why? Because, if you need to tell the truth you will need to tell the whole truth and not leave anything out of what your saying. Be careful on what you say because at the end of the day it will affect you and the person. It will affect you by lying and not saying everything the way it happened and being truthful and it will affect the other person because if they find out the REAL truth they'll know you left a part out or twisted the truth.

"What motivates me in art is the ugly and beautiful nature of the truth. It has to be truthful and honest, even if its ugly and grotesque."

6. Don't indulge in little white lies.

Indulging in white lies can be harmful even if you think it's not. Lying shouldn't give a person pleasure on how it feels. Lying is the most dishonest thing you can ever do because you're lying to someone to not hurt their feelings. And by indulging it you give yourself the upper hand thinking it's okay to do when it's not. You shouldn't indulge white lies even though they aren't serious lies they still can hurt someone when they find the truth whether you tell the truth or someone else tells it for you.

"When we tell little white lies, we become progressively color-blind. It is better to remain silent than to mislead."

7. Watch out for silent lies.

Silent lies is still a lie no matter the circumstances a lie won't change it's meaning if its a lie. But specifically do not know what a silent lie truly means. I think a silent lie is the same as a regular lie but instead of telling someone a lie your telling yourself a lie in way to make yourself feel better about something. You can't always lie to people but you can also lie to yourself and it can be deceiving yourself. I also assume silent lie is when a person tries to make their self-esteem boost up or their confidence goes up.

"Tell a lie once and all your truths become questionable."

8. When you catch yourself lying, throw your mouth into reverse.

When you catch yourself lying, you need to pause what you said and say the truth instead. If you catch yourself instead of counting you can say "oh that's a lie, the truth is ..." Instead of counting the lie that you just said. Be straight forward and don't say lies because eventually you'll have to say the truth. And stopping yourself while saying a lie the honest thing you can do because your not committing to the lie.

"The most common lie is that which one lies to himself; lying to others is relatively an exception."

9. Talk to yourself.

Talking to yourself is always good. Because no one can understand you like you understand yourself, you may not get valuable life lessons from yourself but you can know how to be truthful to yourself. Because at the end of the day your the one who keeps having your back when no one is there and you could vent to yourself when you have something on your mind. If you told a lie and you feel bad you can always talk to yourself and try to prevent those lies slipping out of your mouth and let truth come out. It can be risky answering back to yourself but you get a better perspective on what you want to talk about. You may have friends and family members who wanna talk to you and give you advise, it wont be the same as the one you give to yourself. Talking to yourself has two sides the good side or the bad side but you are the one who controls what you want to do its in your conscious of your respond. You just have to listen to yourself and choose wisely on what you wanna do.

"Talking to yourself is okay. Answering back is risky."

10. Treat yourself when you tell the truth.

Treating yourself when telling the truth is always good because you stayed committed on telling the truth which is good and you deserve to reward yourself .

Reflection: They can benefit me for being truthful and more honest towards others instead of lying and hiding the truthful from someone because eventually the truth will come out and I personally would rather tell the truth and be honest because you want the other person to do the same to you. I'm applying to stay committed on telling the truth and talking to yourself it made a big difference because when I talk to myself I understand what's right from wrong and wrong from right and I tend to look and every different outcome if I choose the wrong or right. And committing on telling the truth has also helped because I think to myself since I am committed and promise not to say a lie it helps me a better person cause I'm not going around making up lies I rather be neutral and not say any lie and just tell truth from now on. I can incorporate these other tips in my life planning goals by not lying when I had to read my goals.

Internet 101

The Internet works in a way where nothing gets messed up, but it doesn't usually work that way. Since there are hackers who go into websites and make a "malfunction" on it where the user of the website can get a virus or get the information stolen which in this case we don't know what they'll do. But there are some websites that secured and will protect you from hackers or viruses every time you search something online check the URL to see if it has https which in that case the website your in is protected if it doesn't i means it isn't, but when it not protected it warns you before using it that it's not a protect website and someone or something can hack or get into your computer. You just have to make sure what your using. Another thing hackers might do is spam your emails by impersonating a bank and telling something went wrong, and that they'll need you to right down your email and password but little do you know that you gave the hackers your information now they can go to your bank account and get your money. Another thing hackers can do is shut down the website your in. Hackers also give you a bunch of pop ups to give you a virus. When you get a virus or hacked the person or virus can delete everything you have in your computer. There are different computers that control the .org, .net, .com, etc. not just one big computer because that computer will over drawn by all the requests everyone suggest it made it more simple. Every time you use a website like tumblr or Instagram there's cookies in those cookies and with those cookies it save your information so when you try to log the receivers already have your information and it logs you instantly. Internet travels of the speed in life. The information is made by bits which its like turn on and off, it's also called binary code. Text, pictures, videos, etc are made by bits. There are different ways internet can travel by electricity, light, and radio. Every computer has an IP address and is made of numbers just like a phone number. There a more information about the internet and how every part works and they are interesting if you'd like to know more check out :https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/computer-science/internet-intro/internet-works-intro

Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People
Technique 1: Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
"If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive."
In my opinion by this technique is never judge or complain about things you don't wanna do. Do them without any complain it will help you in life. For example when i was asked to help LAPD I didn't complain because it can help me in the future if i need help or its an emergency i can call them up cause they know of how good of a person i am.

Technique 2: Give honest and sincere appreciation
"The big secret in dealing with people"
In my opinion being honest is a good thing because you are being straight forward on what you have say, even if it's hard to be honest you will have try. Also having appreciation towards people is also better because they want to know how you really feel about and if they are appreciated by you. This technique will help you in a lot in life, being rude and not being honest or appreciating other people won't get you no where in life.
Technique 3: Arouse in the other person eager want.
"He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot, walks a lonely way."
In my opinion on arousing in the person is to be interested in what he/she wants. By making this technique happen you'll have to look and find what they like what they don't.
Final Reflection: I believe these techniques can help a person become more aware of they let there actions or response to someone else. It can teach you to handle someone without being rude just being straight forward to them.
School Break Day
During my Christmas/ Semester break i spent time with family mostly friends. With my family I stayed home taking care my nieces and nephews also watching Christmas movies and with my friends I went out with them stayed up at all night playing card games or out eating. I met my friends brother and mother, his brother was very nice also his mom.The movies i watched were The Nightmare Before Christmas, Home Alone, The Grinch, and Home Alone 2. I really didn't watch many movies i watched more shows like; Supernatural,Dexter,Baby Daddy, and Flashpoint. I didn't play or watched any sports during my vacation. My CTR experiences was helping LAPD in East Los Angeles give out presents to little kids on December 20th, it was so crowded that even channels 4 and 34 came to see the event. The only book I read was Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin I fell in love with the book because of my sister since she had to read it for her college essay.During vacation I didn't do homework be there wasn't homework that I knew of.That's all I did for my Semester break.
